The source of nerve impairment is often unknown, but there are a number of conditions that can increase the risk of neuropathy. Causes and risk factors for neuropathy can be multiple and include conditions such as:

  • Family members suffering from neuropathy

  • Chronic diseases, like diabetes

  • Environmental toxins, e.g. smoking

  • Alcoholism

  • Nutritional deficiencies, e.g. vitamin B deficiency (could be caused by dietary habits such as vegeterians, vegans or people with an unbalanced diet)

  • Side effects of certain medications

  • Other unexplained causes

Please contact your doctor to discuss your possible risk factors for neuropathy.

Also if you feel healthy and have no risk factors for neuropathy now, we advise regular check-ups with a health care professional to ensure early detection and treatment of general health conditions, including neuropathy.
